We can't say it better or more concisely, so we hope José Guardia doesn't mind us scooping his entire post from
Barcepundit...
SPANIARD JAVI LAVANDEIRA from Tokyo:
[W]estern media is spreading fear and lots, lots of bullshit among our families and friends, because being alarmists brings them advertising money.
Because of this, family and friends are pressuring those of us who stay in Tokyo to leave the city. This is causing trouble for many of us.
To the media:
For fuck’s sake, please stop publishing crap in order to bring more viewers (and therefore, more advertising money) to your publications/programs/whatever. What you’re doing is just taking advantage of this situation in order to try and make some money at the expense of everybody who knows someone in Japan. You’re causing more trouble to us than the earthquake did!

Be my guest, Charles.
Really is astonishing. I had a colleague in Tokio. He had to leave because his family in the US was in a panic.
Today, all of a sudden, everything is fine and under control. And now we have Libya to sell papers.
The worst part is governments react pretty much the same way regular citizens do....in a panic. It´s embarrasing.
Thanks José.
Ole Miss - you know the Spanish government has sent a 450-seat 747 to 'evacuate' Spaniards. Takers of the offer number 160. They've now extended their largesse to any EU citizen in order to fill the plane.
reactionary governments, is what they are. But on the flip side, the govt would probably get flack if they DIDNT send a plane.
Thanks Charles, Saw this post and it so echoed a general wolf roar we were building up to, we echoed it in our post/rant today
regards and empathy to Jose Guardia too.
All the best
Polemic
Isn't this how capitalism is supposed to work? If alarmism attracts more viewers is precisely because viewers demand alarmism. An the media supplies them with it. The system works. It's very funny seeing Mr Guardia moaning and crying like a little baby in one of the few instances where his beloved free market capitalism actually works.
